Roger federer, The Master of Tennis lost in quarter finals of Wimbledon 2010. Which will drop his ranking to No. 3. As a hard core federer fan, i'm really feeling bad with the result. On the flip side this result will be very encouraging to other players, who started believing that they can beat federer in grad slams. Lot of tennis players, stopped dreaming about top rank and started setting their goal as 2nd rank.
16 grand slam titles, 285 total weeks at No.1 position, 23 consecutive Grand Slam semi finals. These stats are some of the jewels in federer's crown. According to principle Records are Made to be Broken, all federer records may be broken. But not by any single player of this modern era.
Too much of dominance is bad for any sport. It happened with badminton. Asian players are playing so dominant that, they are the winners at all major tournaments. Because of this, Americans and Europeans stopped playing badminton. If federer domination has continued in the same way as the past 6 years, other good players could have stopped playing tennis. We have to wait and see, how many players other than Nadal will take this as opportunity and win grand slams.
In my list of dreams, one dream is to have a Wiki page with my name. I don't know how to achieve this. But federer is having more than 15 wiki pages. If federer writes something in facebook, within 15 minutes you can observe something like 30,000 people like this status under the post. That is the popularity and greatness federer has achieved.
I still believe, one day federer will regain his form and win one or two grand slams. Best of Luck federer.
